AT last month’s Thurrock Council meeting, Stanford West councillor, Neil Speight (Ind) attempted to bring up what is termed an “urgent question”.

The mayor of Thurrock, cllr Sue Little, rejected the request. There was to and fro until cllr Speight was told that they were moving on.

Cllr Speight stated: “Democracy is dead in this chamber”.

The microphone caught cllr Little saying..”and so will you be”

Councillor Speight has told YT that he is not minded to make a complaint.

We have not had a definitive answer if Thurrock Labour have.

So we went to Thurrock Council and put a number of questions to them.

A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: “You appear to have misheard, that is not what was said. Any suggestion otherwise would be completely inaccurate”.

You can hear the comment itself at the seven minute part of the film.

Five years ago, there was a by-election in the wake of an Ockendon councillor standing down after making an obscene gesture in the chamber.

  1. Thurrock council appears to be a law until itself. Wasting public money and making council residents pay lots of money for much less. Let’s not forget it cannot consistently manage it waste collection or deliver on infrastructure. It needs an investigation into its miss management
