Chelsea F.C. was once one of the best football teams in Europe, even winning the UEFA Champions League in 2021. Chelsea used to maintain themselves between the top four teams of every  English Premier League season.  Yet, those glory days seem to be gone, as the team faces another terrible season in the English Premier League.

To the fans’ dismay, Aston Villa managed to conquer a win against The Blues. Although Chelsea won against Brighton afterward, it is in 15th place on the leaderboard currently.

This, to say the least, is such a low position for the former premier league giant.

While there’s still a chance to recover, many fans and experts are skeptical about the future of The Blues in the league.

Why Has Chelsea Fallen?

Falling from grace in the 2022-23 season, they ended up in 12th place after losing 16 matches. Despite spending millions recruiting new members, the team has yet to be able to score victories like it used to.

Some experts, like Steve Nicol, mentioned that the major issue with the team is the lack of offensive players. While Chelsea has acquired a robust defensive line-up, it lacks midfielders and playmakers that can score.

This lack of offense is worsened by the retirements of attackers like Mason Mount and Kai Havert, who have left for other clubs.

Injuries And New Strategies

Besides recruitments, Chelsea had to go with less power than usual, with almost 12 players reporting injuries. Aside from the injuries, it’s worth mentioning the forward player Noni Madueke and the current captain, Reece James.

These injuries have forced Chelsea’s Mauricio Pochettino to change the team’s formation various times. While these changes might seem insignificant at first, they can affect the performance of any team in the long run.

Many of the strategies and formations used in football are prepared months before the beginning of the season. Altering these formations forces players to change their game style, leading to mistakes. This is incredibly hurtful, as players have little time to adapt.

Does Chelsea Still Have a Chance To Recover?

Chelsea is having a rude awakening, but not everything is lost just yet. There are 31 upcoming matches, giving the team more than enough chances to recover and rise to the top of the leaderboard again.

Pochettino asked for patience from the fans. According to him, fans will have to accept that Chelsea is nowhere close to how it was when they won the Championship in 2022. But, he is confident they can build something for the future and take the Blues to better days.
