Aveley 2 v 2 Welling United
AVELEY failed to beat ten-man Welling United on Monday (4 December) at Parkside. The Millers have not won in their last six Vanarama National League South matches reports Ethan Crafter of Thurrock Nub News.
Aveley sits in fourth position, but the five teams directly below all have games in hand, which could see The Millers drop to eighth!
Welling struck first from the penalty spot in the 34th minute. A speculative decision from the referee as Siju Odelusi won the ball with a hard but fair tackle. Aveley’s pleas are ignored, and Tristan Abrahams slots the penalty home. An early Christmas present for The Wings.
However, Welling soon ran out of luck. Goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook was given a straight red card for his challenge on Manny Ogunrinde inside the penalty area.
Outfielder Abrahams went in goal for the penalty but Odelusi slots home to even things up in the 42nd minute.
The Millers leaped into action after the equaliser and scored just five minutes later. Ogunrinde crosses from the right-hand side, the substitute goalkeeper leaves it and the ball goes in! A spectacular error.
After half-time, Aveley failed to make the man advantage count. The Wings scored in the 58th minute after Kain Adom beat goalkeeper Jonathan North to a long ball into the box. North wasn’t quick enough to react, and the visitors were level.
The Millers were held to a point by the struggling, ten-man Welling United.
Aveley welcomes Hungerford Town of the Southern League Premier Division South to Parkside next Saturday (9 December). The Millers will be hopeful of a change in form as they face lower-league opposition in the Isuzu FA Trophy third round.
