THURROCK Council will seek the views of local residents and businesses as plans for the future development of the borough take an important step forward.
Yesterday, Thurrock Council members voted in favour of launching public consultation on proposals for how the borough might grow and develop as a place by 2040.
The current stage of the Local Plan sees the publication of the Initial Proposals document which puts forward suggestions for how different places in the borough might change adapt and grow.
Thurrock Council Leader, Cllr Andrew Jefferies said:
“This is an important stage in our preparations for our new Local Plan which will help us create a borough fit for the future.
It is incredibly important that residents and businesses have an opportunity to get involved and have their say, that is why we are launching a new consultation.
Nobody knows our borough better than the people who live and work here, that is why it is so important that we listen to and hear their views and aspirations. I would urge everyone to participate in this consultation. Nothing is set in stone, I would expect the plan to look very different to the one we are consulting on after residents have had their say.”
Consultation will launch next week with the Initial Proposals document available in civic offices, libraries and online. This will be followed by a series of face to face events, in the new year.

Responses received during the Initial Proposals consultation will be considered when preparing the Draft Local Plan, which will be subject to further consultation at the end of 2024.
