THURROCK Council’s Leader has responded to the latest report about the intervention and improvement at the council following the publication of a report by Commissioners today, Thursday 7 March.

The ministerial response to the Commissioners’ report has also been published on the government website.

The latest report is part of the intervention process at Thurrock Council that started last year on 2 September 2022. At that time, Commissioners were appointed by the Secretary of State to take full control of the financial functions of Thurrock Council and assess actions needed to limit any risks to our services.

Commissioners report the council’s progress to the government’s Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The report is positive about the progress being made. It also highlights areas to focus on, including financial sustainability, organisational culture and governance. It makes clear that work needs to continue at pace and there is a long journey ahead.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Leader of Thurrock Council, said: “The recognition of our progress is encouraging and we will continue to build on what has already been put in place. I remain focused on meeting the significant challenges that lie ahead on our council’s improvement journey.

“We will continue to work together to drive forward with the changes needed to shape our recovery.

“Thurrock is a borough that will succeed and flourish. We want to be the energetic, hard-working and ambitious council local people need and deserve.”

  1. It’s ok to talk the talk, But what is being done to get to grips with the person that scammed Thurrock Council out of millions of Pounds and practically collapsed the councils rental residence without getting emergency work carried out on people’s properties, I’m am talking about the sticking plaster that will do scenario !! Instead of doing the job correctly in the first, Does nobody check the way work is carried out anymore, But then the council doesn’t have the right people that have the qualifications to do the Inspections?????!!!!
