Support St. Luke’s Hospice this Spring

DONATE to St. Luke’s Hospice this spring to help the charity continue providing vital care for people with a palliative, or life-limiting, condition.

St. Luke’s Hospice provides a range of services including its In-Patient Unit, Hospice Community Services, Wellbeing groups, Physiotherapy and adults and children’s counselling and support.

The charity recently launched a new and unique service – the Clinical Outpatients service – offering patients convenient and accessible, specialist palliative care and key clinical procedures in a relaxed environment. Since Clinical Outpatients was introduced at the Hospice, demand for the service has grown. Patients were supported with 755 clinical procedures and 933 blood tests in the first year of the service alone*. (October 2022 – October 2023)

The Clinical Outpatients service can support patients requiring blood tests, blood product transfusions and IV infusions, as well as more complex day procedures. They can provide important central line care, (a line that delivers medicine, fluids, blood, or nutrition to patients, such as chemotherapy), and conduct all of these procedures away from the hospital.

The service supports people with a life-limiting condition to live with their diagnosis and not be controlled by it, empowering patients by providing independence and flexibility with time-specific appointments to suit their wellbeing and lifestyle needs.

Clinical Outpatients is unique in being the only setting in the local care system (Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System) to provide an extensive range of procedures in one single location, offered as outpatient appointments which are designed to fit into patients’ lifestyles flexibly.

Nurse Netty, a Registered Nurse in the Clinical Outpatients service, said:  “I joined St. Luke’s Hospice six years ago and have been part of our Clinical Outpatients team since the service started.

“I work with an amazing team and feel privileged to work here. I can honestly say I love my job. I really feel we make a difference to the people who come here, many of whom are so relieved to be in our care. I am incredibly proud of what we do.”

Demand for the Hospice’s services is increasing, and as a registered charity they are reliant on your valued support to maintain the specialist care they provide.

Support such as donations, fundraising and gifts in Wills enables it to continue provision of specialist services such as Clinical Outpatients, which helps Nurse Netty and her Hospice colleagues to deliver the best care they possibly can, with local patients and their loved ones always at the forefront.

The Hospice needs to raise £11,000 per day to deliver its vital hospice services.

It is thanks to the generosity of the community that St. Luke’s Hospice is able to continue to provide support to local people.
