Football: Aveley still cling on to play off hopes

National League South

Truro City 1 v 1 Aveley

FOR the second time this season, which brought the two sides together for the first time, honours were shared with second 1-1 draw at City’s temporary home at Gloucester City.

When the two sides met at Parkside back in October, Harry Gibbs gave the hosts a 41st minute lead and it looked like they would hold on for all three points. However, in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Ryan Law’s shot towards goal was turned home by City’s Tyler Harvey.

Aveley achieved Saturday’s  (6 April) draw having played more than half the Vanarama National League South clash with ten men.

Jason Ring was adjudged to have prevented a goalscoring opportunity on 38 minutes when, as last man defending a Truro counter attack he pulled down Munakandafa and received a red card.

By then, both sides had scored.

Truro netted first after eight minutes when  Colchester loanee Frankie Terry’s mistake gave away possession and Dan Sullivan found the back of the net.

Terry soon made amends with an equaliser after getting on the end of a great ball in from Charlee Hughes and heading home brilliantly.

Both sides had chances before the break but decisive moment appeared to be Ring’s dismissal.

However, Millers dug deep in the second half and at times went close to clinching all the points.

The one they held on to keeps them in contention for a play-off place.

They sit eighth, a point outside the play-off zone, though other sides in contention have matches in hand.
