Corringham Primary School’s eco stars are recognised

CORRINGHAM Primary School has been awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag Award, an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning.

The programme raises environmental awareness within the school community, improves the school environment and gives pupils the opportunity to lead change within the school.

the school’s democratically chosen Eco Councillors, representing all year groups, worked together to identify areas where they could improve as a school, and used this to create an action plan for this academic year.

They created energy saving posters, encouraged the collection of used stationery for recycling and spearheaded a fundraising day for the organisation Just One Tree.

Head Mrs Karina Garrick said: “They have been excellent role models, encouraging others to take part in our walk to school week and taking part in the Keep Britain Tidy Big School Clean.

“Some councillors also attend the school’s gardening club, nature club and litter picking club.

“The Eco Schools Green Flag Award is a real testament to the hard work and commitment of the Eco Council, and to the enthusiasm and support of all the pupils and staff of the Corringham Primary School community.

“Once again,we lead the way in terms of our innovative and creative curriculum and the opportunities we give our pupils to develop their character and have valuable experiences beyond the curriculum.
