CHELMSFORD-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties has hosted a golf tournament to raise funds for two worthy causes.
The competition, organised to support the H-ABC Foundation UK and Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity (MSE Charity), saw a total of 19 teams tee off on the 18-hole course, raising over £4000 for the charities.

A total of 16 of the housebuilder’s employees participated in the tournament at The Warren Estate in Maldon, battling it out for various awards, including best team, longest drive and nearest pin.
At the conclusion of the course, participants were greeted with a well-deserved barbeque provided by Barratt and David Wilson Homes, before being invited to enjoy drinks, a raffle and an auction to further the funds raised for the devoted charities.
Receiving half the funds raised is H-ABC Foundation UK, which was established in 2019 when four UK parents connected after their children were diagnosed with H-ABC Leukodystrophy – a disease that slowly takes away the ability to walk, talk and eat. Since then, the charity has been working with a parent-led biotech and is close to clinical trials for gene silencing treatment.
The charity also runs a family grant programme that was set up in 2022, in a bid to support families with a child with H-ABC around the UK.
Amy Sheridan-Hill, Co-Founder at H-ABC Foundation, said: “We are so grateful to the amazing staff at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties. They put so much effort into the golf day and we were so pleased to be able to attend the day and meet everyone.
“As a very small charity all the money raised will directly help the children with H-ABC and fund much needed equipment. We feel very fortunate to be one of the chosen charities this year and we cannot thank the team enough.”
Half of the funds raised from the tournament have also been donated to MSE Charity, which is an official NHS charity that works to improve the hospital environments at Southend, Basildon, and Broomfield Hospitals, as well as smaller community-based sites, with extra comforts, state-of-the-art equipment, funds for ground-breaking research, and support to the development and training of hospital staff.
Elise Fleetwood, Corporate Manager at MSE Charity, said: “We are hugely grateful to everyone involved in the success of the golfing event.
“The income raised for our charity will benefit Children’s Services at Broomfield Hospital and improve the experience our young patients, with either mental health concerns or learning difficulties, have in our clinical settings.
“We wish to buy more sensory toys, stimulating artwork and distraction aids. We want to make sure that our facilities are the best they can be to make our patients’ time with us stress free, safe and positive.”
Tom Wright, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “We are delighted with the results of our charity golf tournament and would like to thank everyone who participated in the event for helping to support such worthwhile causes.
“The tournament was a great success, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves whilst being active for such great causes.
“Through the power of community and sport, we have raised an impressive amount of money to contribute to the heartwarming work carried out by both H-ABC Foundation and the Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity.”
Barratt and David Wilson Homes has hosted a range of different events over the past few months, with all proceeds being directly donated to the two charities.
The most recent event was a charity bike ride around the picturesque Brentwood district, where 33 employees pedalled over 15 miles, raising over £3,960 for the worthwhile causes.
