On the polytrack, racing gets underway at 4.10pm with a class six handicap before the action comes to a close at 8.30pm as 12-runners tackle a one-mile handicap.

The opening contest on Saturday (4.10) sees a field of 11 take on the one mile and two furlong handicap in class six. Bascinet found only one too good last time out at Bath and on the all-weather surface in Essex is taken to go one better in the opener for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton ahead of Meadram, who ran well at Goodwood last time out and could emerge as the chief threat here.
Race two on the card is a Nursery contest in class six over the seven furlong trip for two-year-old’s (4.50) and there are several unexposed types on show here but of the 14-runner field, it could be worth siding with the Jamie Osborne-trained Freak Encounter, a good third of nine at Yarmouth last time out which was a career-best showing. Me Tarzan rates the main danger, fourth of 12 on debut at Kempton when poorly placed and that run was a lot more promising than the end result.
Fourteen runners will head to the stalls for race three (5.25) with Sapphire Valley the one to beat in this division one novice stakes for trainer George Boughey, who got off to a perfect start on debut when landing an 11-runner maiden at Wolverhampton on debut and can defy a penalty in the weights at Chelmsford to make it two wins from two starts.
Division two of the same discipline marks race four of the Chelmsford card on Saturday (6.00) and Shamador can go one better than when second on debut at Newcastle for trainer Archie Watson heading south to Essex, while race five (6.30) can go the way of One Road for trainer Kevin Phillipart De Foy, a winner last time out at Wolverhampton and is another who can shoulder a penalty in the weights to go in again here.
Thirteen runners will take on the class five handicap over six furlongs in race six of the evening (7.00) and last year’s winner of this contest, the Jack Jones-trained The Waiting Game, is back for more and can make it a second straight win in this contest and rack up a fifth win of his career at Chelmsford. Of his rivals, Scarboroughwarning rates the main danger off the back of landing a Catterick novice last time out and was second in a course and distance handicap last month.
Race seven (7.30) sees another good field of 14 head to the start for the six furlong handicap in class six. Time Patrol finished well to land a second of 12 in a Wolverhampton handicap on his last spin and is taken to go one better here if there is a solid pace up front ahead of Lewis Barnes, who seemed to find the blinkers to his liking when second in a course and distance handicap just nine days ago.
The penultimate race on the Saturday card is a seven furlong handicap at 8.00 and of the 15 runners set to take it on, course and distance winner Profit Man looks the one to beat for trainer Ben Brookhouse who will very much enjoy the return to this trip having won in April at Chelmsford, while the finale (8.30) can go the way of the Craig Benton-trained Bold Suitor, a winner of a 12-runner handicap over this course and distance nine days ago so should be bang up there once again.
