FOR season 2025-26, the club will be using an updated club crest which has been tactfully and tastefully modernised by a Grays Athletic supporting, graphic designer to “enhance our visual representation across various club platforms and on any new teamware”.
A spokesperson said: “Between now and the beginning of next season, we will also be using the modernised crest on our social media platforms to ensure visual representation is immediately digitally friendly and easily identifiable as Grays Athletic.
For some time, the font used in our crest has made it difficult to digitally reproduce and for those who are visually impaired, difficult to read.
As such, the club has made a few minor design adjustments to the crest to improve our digital visual identity.
The first change is the font used for the wording on the crest. We have made the words Grays much stronger visually and much more readable and replaced AFC with Athletic FC.
The second change is to replace the black and white panel ball rarely used in British football with a more contemporary football design that is identifiable as a ball historically used by the club.
The third subtle change is to replace the orange / yellow appearance of the scrolls for a more premium gold colour which has proved to be very popular with our supporters with the gold coloured crest merchandise we have available for sale currently.
The fourth and final amendment is to darken the oak leaves to a more realistic green leaf colour and guild them in gold for a more premium effect.
As you can see, these minor alterations are completely in-keeping with the current crest elements and ensures we are easily identifiable as Grays Athletic within the digital world.
To continually future proof ourselves as a dynamic and progressive club, the Board has discussed the possibility of redesigning the club crest with help from our shareholder members once we move to Ship Lane. This would be to represent a new era for the club and to ensure our club crest moving forward fully represents the club, our area and our history. This will be something we will speak with members about and open up a full consultation process right from the idea phase all the way through any design process.
“As the likelihood is that Ship Lane won’t become our home until season 2026-27, any discussion about the possibility of a complete crest redesign won’t happen until late 2025 at the earliest. Until then, the improvements we have made to the current crest ensures we preserve the one that has grown synonymous with the club and one that is now represented in a modern, digital age”.
