APPLICATIONS open for entrepreneurship programme for young people after ongoing success

The programme helps young people gain the skills they need to start their own business in five weeks.

Local youth movement, We Rise, is continuing to break down barriers and empower young people to start their own business. The movement is supported by Essex County Council.

We Rise is now funding a third round of places for young people in Basildon and Castle Point on an Earniversity course. Through this, young people will gain the skills and confidence needed to start their own businesses in five weeks.

The online course starts on 3 March and runs in the evenings, making it perfect for those balancing education, training or work.

Spaces are limited and interested applicants are encouraged to sign up now to secure a spot. Young people can complete the online form to secure a place on the programme.

Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning, and Employability, said: “The Earniversity programme has seen ongoing success for the young people involved. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and achievements.

“By supporting initiatives like this through the We Rise movement, we’re investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs and helping them build brighter futures. I encourage all eligible young people to apply and make the most of this fantastic programme.”

The second round of the programme has already helped young people earn £5,000 through different businesses.

Last November, 46 young residents participated in the course. The funded places were open to 13 to 25-year-olds. The course:

taught key skills such as content creation, reselling, in-person services, freelancing and affiliate marketing
encouraged participants to make real earnings – participants earned an impressive £5,000 by launching their own businesses and side hustles, from website design to babysitting
inspired the young people – 66% of the young entrepreneurs are eager to join more courses by Earniversity and 21 have now gone on to start their own business
One participant shared: “This programme has been life-changing! It gave me confidence in my skills, from creating websites to reselling. I’m now earning money while applying for jobs, and I feel more prepared than ever for the future.”
