CHELMSFORD Racecourse hosts a seven-race card on Saturday as the all-weather action continues at the Essex track.
Racing gets underway on Saturday at 5.15pm with a class five maiden fillies’ stakes contest before coming to a close three hours later at 8.15pm as nine runners tackle the mile handicap in class six.

A field of 12 will head to the start for the opening race of the evening (5.15) which is a seven furlong maiden fillies’ stakes in class five. Scattering Light ran well when third in a race that has thrown up subsequent winners on her final start for Charlie Appleby last summer and, appealing as the type to progress further, she earns the vote for the stable that won this contest 12 months ago in Andrew Balding. Rescue Mission, following her encouraging debut second here, rates the main danger.
Race two on the card sees nine runners tackle the seven furlong handicap in class five (5.45). Enpassant built on the promise of his previous run when successful at Kempton 17 days ago and, having won off a 3lb higher mark last summer, he is taken to score again now that he’s up and running for his current trainer Stuart Williams.
A class six handicap over six furlongs marks race three on the Chelmsford card (6.15). A well-run trip should suit Lilkian, who performed creditably when fourth here last time out for the Daryl Holland team and is capable of getting his head in front off a career-low mark. Combustion arrives in good heart following last week’s win at Southwell and is the next best here.
Lequinto hasn’t had luck on his side in recent starts, and he can deservedly get his head in front in race four of the evening (6.45) for trainer Tony Carroll, while race five (7.15) can go the way of Bang On The Bell for the John Jenkins yard, a course and distance winner that had some excuses for a below-par showing last time, and he remains of interest racing off 7lb lower in the weights than his last winning mark.
The penultimate contest on Saturday’s card sees a field of seven head to the start for the one mile and two furlong class five handicap (7.45). This step back up in trip shouldn’t unduly inconvenience Elterwater and she looks the most solid of the field here for trainers Dianne and Chris Kubler.
Finally, the card comes to a close with the mile handicap in class six at 8.15, with preference in the finale heading the way of Rising Force, who capitalised on his reduced mark when scoring at this track in December and has continued in good heart since, only narrowly denied in a higher grade at Kempton last time, so he could be ready to record his third course success.
