THE all-weather racing campaign continues at Chelmsford Racecourse this week with a seven-race card taking place at the track on Thursday evening.

The card kicks off at 4.55pm with a class five maiden stakes over the six furlong trip before coming to a close at 8.30pm as nine runners take on the mile and a quarter class five handicap for three-year-old’s.

The opening contest on the Chelmsford card sees a field of eight head to the stalls for the six furlong maiden stakes (4.55). A tricky contest to unpick, slight preference heads the way of Dream Out Loud for the Andrew Balding team, who can make it third time lucky having had two seconds to start his career, most recently at Wolverhampton earlier this month. Blue RC hails from a yard that is used to winners this season with James Tate, so rates the main danger on debut.

A small field of five will take on the class six handicap for horses aged four and older, race two of the meeting (5.30). Payment Plan looks the way to go here despite his run of good form halted when last of seven in a Newcastle handicap last time out but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get back on track here with cheekpieces on for the first time.

A division one handicap in class six marks race three of the card over six furlongs (6.00) with One For Harvey taken to get the nod having made the frame at this track twice last year but could be ready to get off the mark with the first-time cheekpieces fitted, while division two of the same discipline (6.30) can go to Inconspicuous for the Michael Keady team, making only his third start for his new yard after getting back on track when fourth of nine in a Wolverhampton handicap over this distance when last seen 37 days ago.

Race five of the evening (7.00) is a class five handicap over the short five furlong sprint, with preference heading to the Jack Morland-trained General Assembly, a winner of a Wolverhampton contest 12 days ago with an enterprising ride. Merrimack heads the dangers off a nine-week break for trainer Stuart Williams, excusing his last run when left poorly drawn and placed at an early stage.

Despite her quirks, Stella Hogan has plenty to offer at this level and she is the selection in race six (7.30) as a field of nine tackle the seven furlong handicap in class six, with the Mick Appleby runner a previous winner over this course and distance on her penultimate run, while race seven on the card (8.00) can head the way of Kitaro Kich, a winner of three of his five stars this year for trainer George Baker and can defy a 2lb rise in the weights to go well once again here.

Finally, the card comes to a close at 8.30pm as nine runners head to the start for the one mile and two furlong handicap in class five. The Jack Channon-trained Lightening Man looks the way to go in the finale, having got off the mark at the third time of asking when winning at Lingfield 22 days ago and is bred to go well over a much further trip, which he will face here having been upped by a furlong. Ruling Master ought to go well again for the Marco Botti yard off a good third in a Wolverhampton nursery last time out so rates the main danger.
