Thurrock swimmers triumph at British Championships

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club participated in this years British & English Championships held in Sheffield. Ten swimmers qualified this year including one for the Open Water Championships. The swimmers who train at Blackshots Leisure Centre with their partners Impulse Leisure, were in great form.


At the British Champs, James McGettigan achieved a huge, best time to make the 50m breast final. He swam another sub 30 secs to finish 5th in GB. James swam his 2nd fastest 100 breast, just missing out on the final by 0.1secs.

Joshua kick started his campaign by making the 50m back final a year underage. In the final, Josh set a lifetime PB finishing 8th overall and 4th in the 17 years age group. In the 100 fly, Josh achieved a PB to make the GB final. He once again improved on his time and finished 4th overall, 2nd in the 17-year age group. Joshua set another best time to make the 50m butterfly final.

Zak Walker swam a 2 sec PB in the 100 fly heats, making the finals for the 13/14 age group. In the final, he achieved another best time finishing 6th, just 0.5 secs behind 3rd placed swimmer. Zak also swam a strong 200 fly equalling his best time.
Rebecca Coogan competed in the 200free at the GB champs.

Danny Thompson swam a great 7.5km swim at the National Open Water Championships. A gruelling swim, but Danny managed to complete the 7.5km course in 1hour 38mins.

At the English Championships, Ivan Ijomoni set a PB in the 200m fly and a huge 8 sec PB in the 400IM. He also set another best time in the 100 fly. Ivan also equalled his best time in the 200IM.

Rebecca Coogan swam well to go under 28 secs for the first time in the 50m free and swam a very good 100m free just missing out on the final. In the 200fly, Rebecca achieved a best time at the 100m point but finished outside of her PB.

Zak Walker swam a PB in the 100 breast to make the final a year underage. In the final, he once again improved on his heat time and finished 10th overall. Zak also swam the 200 breast just missing out on a best time.
Lewis Jarrett, having just come back from illness, competed in the 18+ age group in the 400IM.
Henry Dean swam a very good heat in the 100 fly to make the 18+ final. In the final, Henry placed 10th. In the 50m fly, Henry swam a good race to finish 7th overall.
James McGettigan made the final of the 200 breast. In the final, James set a season’s best and finished 6th overall.
Tierney Rooney swam a very good 200 fly to finish 13th overall. Louise Webster also swam a good 200 fly finishing 14th in the 18+ age group.
