THE East Square family fun day is making a roaring return to Basildon this summer, after the success of last year’s event!
The free, family fun day event, taking place from 10am-4pm on Friday 29 August, will see giant dinosaurs wandering the Square for families to meet. Newborn dino babies will be chomping through the undergrowth and children will be able to register as a trainee ranger at Dino Base camp in East Square. Chief rangers will guide willing trainees through Jurassic knowledge and then train them on what to do in an emergency situation – a dinosaur break out!
Vue Basildon will be joining in with the celebrations with three special £1 film screenings. The screenings, which are first-come-first-served, can be booked through Vue’s website from 22 August, providing attendees with the opportunity to enjoy a film at in the venue’s recliner Lux seating for just £1 when booked online or £2 in-venue.
The £1 screenings set to take place during the family event are Madagascar, Bluey Let’s Play Chef, and CBeebies Musical: The Great Ice Cream Hunt. Keep your eyes peeled on the booking page of Vue Basildon’s website for more details.

Alongside the prehistoric creatures and adventure there will be circus skills workshops, the chance to help Family Scribbles colour in his doodle art, free face painting and let’s not forget the balloon modelling, all based in East Square throughout the day. It’s an ideal opportunity to treat yourself and try one of the East Square cosy restaurants and cafes.
Eastgate Shopping Centre are joining in on the dino-mania and will also have a whole host of free activities taking place on the day. Look out for a wild programme of dinosaurs, drama and dino sized memories as the Jurassic Jeep photo opportunity will be outside the centre, and palaeontology workshop and dino school will run inside the centre for kids to find out if they have what it takes to be an explorer! It’s all free and you will find the activities at their event space.
The team from Creative Basildon will also be on site to lend a hand, “Creative Basildon is delighted to be part of the East Square Family Fun Day as it returns for a second year. We’re especially excited to bring Family Scribbles along to spark imaginations with doodling and colouring activities.
