BASILDON Centre will be buzzing on Thursday 23 October as Pathways, a Basildon Council initiative, hosts two exciting construction events designed to connect local people with career opportunities in the construction industry.

From 11am to 1pm, the Basildon Construction Careers Fair will open its doors in the foyer, marking the formal launch of the Basildon Construction Academy (BCA).

In September, councillors unanimously approved the phased roll-out and long-term operation of the Basildon Construction Academy at a Cabinet meeting.

Pathways supports residents in retraining, building confidence, and enhancing their skills to access secure, fulfilling, and well-paid jobs. The Careers Fair offers a unique chance to meet face-to-face with top employers and training providers eager to share the wide range of opportunities available in the construction sector.

Confirmed employers attending the event include:
Balfour Beatty
Elkins Construction
Emerson Crane Hire
The Hill Group
Indecon Building Ltd
Site Ready Solutions/GSQ Brickwork
Taylor Woodrow
The TP Group
Training providers offering funded courses in CSCS, trade skills, and construction boot camps will also be on hand.

The Basildon Construction Academy aims to bridge the skills gap in the borough’s rapidly growing construction sector by providing tailored training, qualifications, and career support. The initiative is part of Basildon Council’s broader vision to boost local employment and economic prosperity.

Cllr Jessica Power, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Jobs & Skills, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome residents to the Construction Careers Fair and officially launch the Basildon Construction Academy. This marks a major milestone in nurturing local talent and opening doors to rewarding careers in construction.

“By bringing together leading employers, educators, and aspiring professionals, this event demonstrates Basildon’s commitment to building a skilled workforce that will drive our community forward. We encourage everyone interested in a career in construction to take full advantage of this opportunity.”
