THE Southend, Essex & Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board (SETDAB) has launched a new five-year strategy to help people live free from domestic abuse.

The strategy focuses on, making it easier for people to get help when they need it, supporting children and adults to build healthy relationships, working with communities to understand their needs and making sure all agencies work together to protect people and hold abusers to account.

Jane Gardner, Chair of SETDAB and Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said:
“This strategy is a clear plan to help us stay focussed on what matters most. It’s about making sure everyone gets the support they need, when they need it, with services working together to help keep people safe and live free from domestic abuse.”

Research commissioned by SETDAB in 2023 revealed the scale of domestic abuse across Southend, Essex, and Thurrock. The research estimated that 67,637 people have experienced domestic abuse in our area. These findings highlight the need to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and ensure support is accessible to all who need it.

Working together to make support easier to access

Different services and organisations in Southend, Essex, and Thurrock are working more closely together to support people, this joined-up approach aims to make it easier for people to get the help they need, without having to navigate multiple systems. Importantly, these services have been shaped by the voices and experiences of people who have lived through Domestic Abuse, ensuring that support is both relevant and responsive.
