BENFLEET’S reward for their late heroics in the last stage of the BBC Essex Senior Cup will be rewarded with a trip to Aveley FC in the last 16 after the draw for the Fourth Round was broadcast by the competition’s supporters on Friday (24th October).
The Fleet produced one of the stories of Round Three when they won an incredible match on penalties at holders, and former landlords, Canvey Island. This was thanks, in part, to some heroics from their goal-scoring goalkeeper, Flo Gislette, to force a 1-1 draw. They now travel to Aveley who, themselves, did incredibly well to win 3-1 at Colchester United. There are likely to be more magic moments as the remaining clubs all look to book a place in the eventual last eight.
Elsewhere in the draw, Hornchurch, who are currently second in the National League South, now entertain Grays Athletic, impressive 4-0 victors at home to Southend United to earn their place. Meanwhile, Harwich & Parkeston are currently celebrating their 150th anniversary, and their next Senior Cup opponents will be either Tilbury or Braintree Town away from home, who play their Third Round fixture next week.
A pair of table toppers will go head-to-head when Brentwood Town (Isthmian Premier) host FA Cup stars Maldon & Tiptree (Isthmian North). Two guests assisted with the draw as Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, Head of Social Work & Safeguarding at Maldon & Tiptree, drew out the home clubs, while Victoria Polley from BBC Essex was responsible for the away sides.
