CARERS First has appointed Kelly Rust as its new Chief Executive, following the retirement of Alison Taylor.
Kelly joins Carers First with extensive experience in the third sector and a passion for improving the lives of unpaid carers. She will lead the organisation as it continues to deliver vital information, advice, emotional, practical and financial support to family carers.

Her appointment comes at a time when demand for support for unpaid carers continues to grow. Carers First works closely with local authorities, health partners, community organisations and commissioners to ensure carers can access personalised support that helps them maintain their wellbeing and continue in their caring roles.
Kelly succeeds Alison Taylor, who is retiring after six years as Chief Executive. During her time at Carers First, Alison has overseen a significant change programme, growing the charity’s income, number of carers supported, quality of services and its positive impact on the lives of carers.
Vicki Wells, Interim Chair of Carers First, said:
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Kelly Rust as our new Chief Executive. Kelly brings a wealth of experience, deep commitment to unpaid carers, and strong leadership from the third sector, that aligns perfectly with the charity’s objectives.
We are immensely grateful to Alison Taylor for her dedicated service and strong leadership over the past six years. Alison has guided the charity through significant change and growth and leaves the charity in a strong, robust position with a motivated team that is making a material difference in carers lives every day.
We are confident that under Kelly’s guidance, we will continue to improve, grow our impact and provide the essential, personalised support that carers across our communities deserve and rely on. This is an exciting time for Carers First, and we look forward to Kelly leading us forward with energy and commitment.”
Kelly Rust, Chief Executive of Carers First, said:
“I’m delighted to be joining Carers First as CEO. I’ve been so impressed by the impact of the charity and the difference it makes for carers. Building on the strong foundation created under Alison’s leadership, I’m excited about the opportunity to grow our reach and raise the profile of carers so their voices, experiences and contributions are further recognised and supported.”
As Carers First looks ahead, the charity remains focused on working with carers, partners and communities to deliver responsive, high-quality support that helps unpaid carers maintain their wellbeing and continue in their vital roles.
