THURROCK MP Jen Craft has pushed the Council to do more to address reckless parking and driving on Mill Lane, after a young child was hit by a car this morning.

The road, which is used as an informal drop-off and pick-up point for Harris Primary Academy Mayflower, has become increasingly dangerous for parents and students.

While the child was not seriously injured, many parents have reported being knocked by vehicles or forced off the pavement in recent weeks.

The school has made several attempts to tackle the issue but requires additional support.

Mrs Craft, who’s written to Thurrock Council about the issue twice, says she’s “very frustrated” by the lack of action.

In a public letter to the Chief Executive, she is calling on officers to meet with her, residents, the Head Teacher, and the School Council on Mill Lane at the earliest possible opportunity.

Jen Craft, MP for Thurrock, said:

“I am very frustrated that the Council have not taken action to address the parking situation along Mill Lane.

“It’s become increasingly dangerous, putting local people, parents and school children at risk.

“I am calling on the Council to meet urgently with residents, the Head Teacher, the School Council and me to take a proper look at the situation, and put a concrete plan in place to prevent reckless parking or driving in the area.”
