LABOUR councillors in Chadwell St Mary were celebrating after project managers for the Lower Thames Crossing confirmed that they will not be closing a vital through road.
Residents were alarmed to be told that Heath Road and Baker Street could be shut but it appears there has been a change of heart.
Chadwell St Mary councillor, Gerard Rice told residents; “Tim Jones of Highways England, Project Director for the Lower Thames Crossing announced to a packed council chamber that Highways England will not shut Heath Road / Baker Street
” I welcome this announcement and look foward to Highways England announcing news regarding the tunnels around Chadwell St Mary and Thurrock. I hope their plans will
reduce air pollution and COPD levels in the area and not increase.”

No change of heart – just that the film of the proposed route didn’t show Heath Road continuing. A lesson in Labour spin and hype in the run up to the local elections. How to conjure up a victory over nothing. Fake news swallowed as truth by the masses…
