May 27th was a full moon & if you look closely enough you may have see some of Thurrocks Witches flying passed on their broom sticks. Well actually I’m not really serious about the flying on brooms part, but I am very serious about Thurrock and infact all over England there being real witches & mediums in our midst. Scared!
I went for a reading with a medium after I had lost both my parents and I found out from her that she also happened to be a witch too (infact witch means ‘wise one’ I discovered after some investigation). I’ve always been a bit wary of such things ‘witchy or wiccan’ although I did end up buying a necklace a couple of years ago which has a pentagram on it. Some tried to tell me was what devil worshippers wear, but I still felt the compelling need to wear it. After some investigation again, I was pleased to learn that the symbol is that of protection and the different points represent ‘spirit’ ‘air’ ‘Fire’ ‘water’ & ‘earth’ so actually not so demonic after all phew!
This lovely Wicca medium bought through my mum and described her to a T, the way she looked her personality (which to be honest she was a difficult character at times I must say) & even her obsession with bleach! My mum was slightly o.c.d on the cleaning front, stripes like a lawn in the living room carpet where she hovered so much & she somehow even managed to get spots of bleach on our clothes, very annoying I must say. So this ‘witch’ who in many people’s eyes in the community would feel isn’t one to be friends with, had just bought me immense comfort & lifted my spirits. This isn’t what witches do surely, aren’t they supposed to cast evil spells and have warts and everything? She passed on what my mum had to say, & my Grandmother, it was a wonderful experience and I’m very thank full that I went along.
I will admit to having had readings before in the past & that I myself since very small, have naturally been a spiritual person. We weren’t bought up with any religion or to be spiritual & no one else seemed to feel the same or see the same things as I did. To be honest I thought what I was seeing which was often white visions in front of me or the odd thing moving was the sand man or similar so it never really bothered me when I was ‘very small’ but as I grew up I realized not everyone saw the odd thing like I did.
Wicca and witches began to intrigue me now, what was it all about, did she cast spells, how many witches were there out there in Thurrock?! I questioned my new found friend on her Wicca and was pleasantly surprised that is wasn’t anything to be afraid of, and a true witches code of conduct was “Harm none”. They believed whatever you gave out negative or positive comes back 3 thold so it’s not a good idea to be any sort of dark witch! There are dark people out there in all forms of life, you don’t have to cast any negative spells of any sort to be giving out negativity towards someone.
I started to go along to more spiritual places and found that in Thurrock there are many many witches! Most never shout it from the roof tops as it’s deemed even today as bad or somehow the devils work. Well I thought to myself if they are so bad, why are they out there doing so much good in the community.
There are wiccan police, wiccan social workers, wiccan teachers and like my friend a wiccan medium giving comfort & love to those that have lost their loved ones.
So before you think “burn witch” you could end up having to burn some of your friends, work colleagues and nearest and dearest.

Fantastic blog, paganism is one of the biggest growing “religons” in Britain, I have been a hedgewitch (soiltary white witch) for several years now and have studied paganism and it’s different paths before finding my true path to wicca.
My Mother has been a witch for decades and studied under John Belham-Payne who was Doreen Valiente’s High Priest, whislt living in Spain she started a series of Moots along Southern Spain.
Paganism is a peaceful and nature born religion which pre-dates Christianity, we are not Devil worshipers as is often portrayed by other religious groups who do not fully understand our ways
