THURROCK Independents councillor Peter Smith has launched a government petition to ‘Introduce tougher penalties for commercial fly-tipping’.
This petition calls upon Parliament to debate the illegal industrial sized fly-tipping that blights our nation. Specifically, the petition calls for Parliament to debate:
(i) Whether the relevant enforcement agencies are adequately resourced to enforce existing legislation?
(ii) Whether current legislation is being implemented robustly by Her Majesty’s Court Service?
(iii) Whether Parliament needs to consider passing new legislation to provide an effective deterrent?
Cllr Peter Smith said: “Millions of pounds of taxpayer’s money is spent clearing up behind these unscrupulous criminals, the current legislation does not appear to be an effective deterrent. The cost of clearance to local authorities in England in 2017/18 was £12.2 million, for large fly-tipping incidents.
“This Tory Government and Tory Council have been a soft touch for fly-tippers. Everyone is aware of the cuts to policing and lack of police officers. The lack of investment in the police has created a lawless society where people feel they can break the law without consequences.
“Unfortunately it is law abiding tax paying citizens that pay the price for disastrous Tory polices. We need a change in the law so that there is significant resources, consequences and deterrents to stop more fly-tipping.”

It is not about Tory or Labour here, so stop trying to capitalise on the issue. When Labour were in the hot seat the council was no more interested in addressing the problem.
Answer – Take away the vehicle and then give a huge fine, say £10k. When they don’t cough up send the bailiffs in and take all thats needed to foot the fine plus costs. Do that a few times and word will soon get round.

If we had done that with the banksters we would of avoided the very next crash thats going to happen. Which will bankrupt this great nation.
