LAST week, Deputy Leader, Val Morris-Cook implore more councillors to attend events such as the Thurrock Drama Festival and T-Fest.
As part of a regular series, young Homesteads councillor, James Halden believes that the public are more interested in whether their councillors are dealing with the issues that concern them on a day to day basis rather than the freebie and junkets laid before them.
We spoke to James about this point and the many issues that are coming up in his case file.

Councillors – Compulsory attendance at Forums and the return of the Central Assemblies for better Officer / Councillor / Community Engagement. 4 Meetings instead of 20. Away with Vertex and the consultant army which has fleeced Thurrock’s coffers. Better trained and motivated staff – people work in Local Govt because they wish to serve their communities.
Scrap forums and don’t bring back central assemblies, instead hold local referendums to see if people want proper parish or town councils throughout the borough.
Cllr Halden,
Doesn’t know what he is talking about he stutters far to much doesn’t understand the budget at all we are talking about Thurrock not national government the Labour party Nationally had a plan that would cut local authorities budgets but not so drastically but then the electorate have spoken.
As for the Youth Cabinet they had a youth MP that was in the Tory party that should never been allowed to hold such a position.
Finally what happened to the reserves over the last 10 years? spent it yet you put council tax up and up and up and services have been cut cut and cut!
Bad on all of you 49 councillors!
yes – and here we go again – another Thurrock mess – mess – mess – all too dearly PAID for by US. Small wonder that so many sub-cultures and alternative economies – working AWAY from corporate and community interests – have grown within this mess. Power in the hands of fools always weakens the structure it was elected to hold together – in our case – destroys it. How many people actually vote anymore – anyway? So, how far has democracy really brought us? (as we all chant : GLUG…GLUG..GLUG.. as the Titanic sinks again…..) I agree with Thurrock for All – the credibility of the consultancy racket has hit rock bottom – get rid of all that – as to Vertex …. now, there was a REALLY BRIGHT IDEA – wasn’t it? costl;y too – we should have the power to now sack the whole shower – as in sack ’em up and chuck THEM overboard – just as they do to our prospects…
