The annual Electoral Register canvass will be dropping through your letterbox soon.
Thurrock Council – like authorities across the country – have to carry out an annual update of the Electoral Register and it is an offence not to supply the required information or to provide false information.
The forms should also include anybody living at an address who is 17 years old along with their dates of birth.
Residents should check the names listed and amend the details if necessary. If you are new to the property and the pre-printed names no longer live there, cross them out and add the names of persons who are 17 years and older. Providing your previous address would assist in updating the register.
Other things to remember are to include your nationality and remember to sign and date the form before sending it back in the pre-paid envelope supplied. If you require a postal vote, you can request one on this form.
If the details of who is living at the address have not changed over the past year it is possible to confirm this by telephone or via the internet – details will be provided on the canvass form. The telephone response lines are available in a range of languages.
If you don’t want to miss out on the chance to vote, look out for the Electoral Register canvass and fill it in. Registration with council tax does not update the Electoral Register.
Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Thurrock’s portfolio holder for elections, said: “I would urge people to respond to this year’s reminder as soon as possible.
