FIREFIGHTERS took five hours to tackle a blaze in a derelict building in West Thurrock.

Seven crews were sent to the fire at the former Lang Viet restaurant, in London Road.

Fire broke out at around 4.50pm on friday and had spread to three quarters of the building, across two floors.

Crews from Grays, Orsett, Corringham, Brentwood, and an aerial ladder platform from Southend, were on the scene.

Assistant Divisional Officer Iain Macleod said: “The fire has completely destroyed the single storey derelict restaurant.
“Crews have done an excellent job in preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding properties.”

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation will be carried out.

Fire crews left the scene just before 10pm on friday.
