Swimming: Thurrock make fast work of short course champs

SWIMMERS from Thurrock participated in this year’s Regional Short Course Championships held in Luton. All the swimmers who train with their partners Impulse Leisure at Blackshots Leisure Centre had a great weekend.

Henry Dean had a very busy weekend, winning the 200 fly in a best time, finishing 5th in the 50 fly final and setting a PB in the 50 freestyle and equalling his best in the 200 freestyle. Henry achieved another best time in the 50 back and came third in the final of the 50 fly.


Joshua Shepherd was the youngest in his finals, achieving 3rd place in the 50 fly, 50 free and 100 back – fractionally outside his best times. Joshua came 2nd in the 100 fly, 3rd in the 50 back in a best time and 3rd in the 50 fly.

Ethan Martin swam to a best time in the 50 fly and 1/10th outside of his best in the 50 free. He set best times in the 50 fly, 50 back, 100 medley and 200 free

Freddie Gardner achieved a best time in the 50 free, 50 fly and 100 back. He missed his national time by 1/10th in the 50 free. Freddie achieved best times in the 50 fly and also the 100 free. Freddie made his first final in the 100 free finishing 6th overall.

Elise Delapperall equalled her best times in the 50 fly and 50 back.
Louise Webster achieved a best time in the 50 fly and just outside of her best in the 100 & 200 fly.
Kai Patel, only 14 swimming in the men’s event, swam just outside of his best in the 100 & 200 breast.
James McGettigan set a short course PB in the 100 fly and was just outside of his best in the 50,100 & 200 breast.
Ayobami Akindele swam well, achieving best times in the 50 free, 50 breast and 50 fly.
Danny Thompson achieved life time bests in the 100 fly and 400medley.
