THE Road Crime Team (RCT) arrested 14 people while on patrol on Saturday – with 10 of them for driving under the influence.

The dedicated officers continue to identify those unfit to drive through drink or drugs following a successful campaign to take dangerous drivers off our roads in December 2024.

On Saturday 18 January officers conducted patrols across Essex as part of the force’s work to keep the roads safe.

As well as seizing 18 vehicles for lacking insurance and issuing 62 Traffic Offence Reports, they arrested 10 people on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Another two people were arrested for immigration offences, one breached their court bail conditions and the other was wanted by police for an unrelated offence.

Chief Inspector Carl Habbershaw said: “These drivers are not exempt from the laws of the road and we are out every day to catch those who believe they are.

“These laws are there to keep people safe and to prevent them and others losing their lives.

“Our officers work tirelessly to identify drivers who are over the legal limits, to protect our communities from any harm they may cause and to reduce killed and seriously injured collisions.”
