BLUEBAY Building Products – a leading independent UK distributor of specialist civil engineering and construction materials – has expanded its South East operations with the opening of a new depot in Thurrock.
The move marks a major investment in the region and will bring new employment opportunities to the area, with the 20,000 sq ft depot strategically positioned to support contractors and suppliers across London, Essex, Kent, and the wider South East – helping meet demand from major infrastructure schemes, including HS2 and local authority development pipelines.

The new location also brings environmental benefits, enabling shorter distribution journeys across the region and reducing the company’s carbon footprint by easing reliance on its Luton facility. It is also FORS Gold Accredited, a distinction awarded only to exemplary operators who meet rigorous standards in safety, efficiency, and environmental performance.
In addition to improving service reach, the site will create six new employment opportunities, starting with Joe Underwood, a long-standing member of the Bluebay team, who has been appointed Branch Manager. Speaking about his new role, Colchester-based Joe said: “Opening a depot in Thurrock is a huge step forward for us in the South East. We’ve seen increasing demand for local access to our technical products, and this new site puts us in a perfect position to better support our clients across the region – especially on fast-paced projects like HS2. I’m proud to be leading this exciting new chapter.”
Joining Joe is Bexley Heath-based Carrie Kinsville, who takes up the role of Technical Sales Manager. Carrie brings significant construction sector experience, most recently at SIG plc, and will play a key role in growing Bluebay’s customer base across the South East.
Lucy Furnival, Managing Director of Bluebay Building Products, added:
“The South East is an area of vital strategic importance for our business, and our investment in Thurrock reflects our long-term commitment to supporting clients here.
“It’s a fantastic location that puts us within easy reach of key development sites, and we’re excited to bring more jobs to the area and expand our offer with a highly skilled local team.”
Matt Parker, Managing Director of Infrastructure at Wolseley, concluded: “Bluebay is a great example of our continued investment in specialist businesses that offer our customers new products and services. Since joining the Wolseley family in January, the business has quickly focused on expanding its national footprint. Under Lucy’s leadership Bluebay is creating new jobs, attracting a growing customer base and now opening a first new depot since 2014. It’s a fantastic milestone and we’re excited to support the next phase of their journey.”
Bluebay now operates five depots across the UK; as well as Thurrock, there are depots in Cardiff, Luton, GatesheadandWarrington, each distributing more than 2,000 specialist products to support a wide range of infrastructure and construction projects nationwide.
