THE RESIDENTS and local councillor Wendy Herd certainly know how to run a campaign in Aveley and so they were all celebrating last night as the plans to build 550 homes on green belt land in Aveley were thrown out by Development Corporation (DC).

The plans proposed by the Springfield Consortium also included a 175 bed care home, a doctors surgery and a community building west of Romford Road.

Speaking after the meeting, Aveley councillor, Wendy Herd said: “We are all ecstatic. To us, the proposals, on so many levels, were very poorly thought out.

From bins, to roundabouts, to infrastructure, to flood provision. We are delighted that the DC thought the same.

Cllr Herd added. “It is a close knit community in Aveley, proud of its history and protective of the future. That is why you have seen lots of public meetings and demonstrations on the street.

“We will continue to pressure for the best for Aveley.”
