Young, aspiring poets across Thurrock have been given the opportunity to see their poems in professional print. The theme of the now closed competition was simple: write about what matters to you. Poems range from humour, to love, to domestic abuse.

Young Writers, the parent company of Forward Press, which is the largest publisher of new poetry in the world, launch their Poetry Matters Anthology every year with the intention to engage, motivate and inspire young people as well as boost their confidence in regards to writing.

The British Library has almost two decades of Young Writers’ collections within its national archive, allowing children aged 11-18 years old to showcase their poetry.

“To see your poem in professional print is just amazing. It’s an excellent opportunity for young people to become engaged in poetry and it allows them to keep a life time memento of their achievement.” says a young poet from William Edwards School.
