Rugby 4ths aim for their fifth

THURROCK have appeared in the last 4 BL League Cup Finals, winning the first three, but narrowly losing out last year to East London, the then League winners, in the last minute.

To get there, they must beat Wanstead 2nd team, a team they have already lost to away – a tall order, but rest assured, Thurrock will be up for the contest, though not at full strength.

This is even more remarkable given that Thurrock regularly start with two 60 plus year olds in the side, namely Roy ‘Journeyman’ North and Pat ‘Bus Pass’ Gard and have also given many a 17 year old colt their first taste of Senior rugby this season.

A majority of the team are well over 40 and several regulars are over 50. They also couple this with a fancy dress theme most weeks, with any fines going into an end of year beer kitty.

Here’s hoping that Thurrock win through, as they will play at Southend RFC, with the actual winners being presented their cup by no less than France and Wasps back row player, Serge Betson.
