Potters Bar 1 v 3 Grays Ath
GRAYS ATH put in a sparkling performance to put in-form Potters Bar to the sword as they won 3-1 at Parkfield.
Grays started off with their effective 4-1-1. James Bunn once again started off well as he held the ball up letting the midfield break forward.
But this was a swift agile Scholars and Grays early on gave away too much ball. But in the 9th minute, Grays played some great one touch football. On the other hand,
Potters Bar got the first corner of the match but the ball was firmly headed away by Jake Hall. The second corner saw Kenny Beaney head off the line.
Grays were keeping the tempo high, which was suiting Nathan Gordon on the right but in the middle, Kenny Beaney was losing a lot of possession.
These were two evenly matched teams. But Grays took the lead in the 26th minute, when Jake Hall rose above the crowd to head from close range.
Grays could have had a second when a Grant Cooper punt was edged round the post by the keeper. A minute later, a great Lee Flynn cross was deftly off Nathan Gordon’s head by the keeper.
Grays were putting in the same level of performance as their second half versus Needham. And in the 35th minute, Nathan Gordon made it two when great running by Danny Bunce saw him cross from the dead ball line and it gave Gordon the simplest of tap-ins.
Grays fans knew that another goal was vital and it came in the 49th minute. James Bunn is outstanding at holding the ball up and shielding. This time, he turned on a sixpence and put the ball into the net.
The scholars put all three subs on and applied pressure but Grays looked in total control.
But Potters Bar got a goal back in the 73rd minute when a Joe O’Brien shot from thirty yards was fluffed by the Grays keeper and went into the net.
Grays, because they were Grays, were rattled. But there was some stout defending going on and a double tackle from Grant Cooper and then Kenny Beaney highlighted the Blues’ steel.
Grays saw out the game comfortably to stay in the play-offs. They head to bottom of the league Ware on Saturday.
