CHAIRMAN OF THURROCK FC sat down with YT’s Bill Robinson to reflect on a deeply disappointing season.

Below is the match report for Saturdays match v Basingstoke.

Thurrock 1 v 2 Basingstoke Town

Blue Square Bet South

Bill Robinson reports from Ship Lane….

Relegated but playing with pride at stake, Thurrock were under pressure from the start, and had to keep their wits about them as the visitors threatened constantly for the opening 15 minutes.

The opening goal came for the visitors in the 21st minute, an unfortunate defensive error allowed David Pratt to get behind the back four to fire home from about 18 yards.

Thurrock were equal to their opposition but never looked like testing Ashley Bayes in the Basingstoke goal.

HT 0-1

Within two minutes of the restart Basingstoke extended their lead, a good move down the left flank and a fine save from Ross Kitteridge in the Thurrock goal, but it still could not stop Tim Sills adding number two to the visitors tally with a close range header.

Basingstoke gained momentum after this early second half goal and Ross Kitteridge had to make three fine saves to keep Thurrock in the game.

Lee Boylan had the best chance for Thurrock in the 57th minute when he broke away from his marker, but his shot fly high over the bar.

The game was still full of open play and the visitors continued to look for more goals as they look to keep their slight play off hopes alive.

Lee Boylan did find the net in the closing seconds of the game to give the score a more respectable look.
