TWO members of staff at Hassenbrook Academy in Stanford-le-Hope, Paul Smith and Anthony Hattam, competed in last weekend’s Horndon 10k to raise money for the David Carvell Fund.
Paul’s nephew David was an ex-Hassenbrook student and suffered from a heart condition, Hypertension.
He sadly passed away at the end of last year aged just 20.
His family set up a charity with the help of the Children’s Heart Foundation to assist other families who have children or young adults with the same condition.
As a result of Sunday’s run Paul and Anthony raised £350 for the charity, which currently totals £3500.
Further events are planned to raise more funds for the federation in the future, this includes a 70’s night in late September.
