BELHUS Ladies took part in an eight-a-side competition on Sunday, with three matches against Bentley, Benfleet and Rayleigh, the host club. In their first game, Belhus scored 37 for the loss of just one wicket, as Sophie Lennox top scored with nine out. When Bentley replied, opening bowler Rhiannan Jefferies struck with her second ball and later some smart fielding by Jefferies combined by good work from bowler Jackie Norris saw Bentley lose their second wicket. But there was no further loss as the target was reached with seven balls to spare.

Benfleet followed as second opponents, which saw Belhus total 28 for the loss of two wickets after their alloted seven overs. In reply, Benfleet reached their target with one over to spare. After a rain delay which extended the lunch interval, Belhus were held to 21 for the loss of four wickets by a strong Rayleigh attack.

Grimwood was impressive with two wickets at a cost of just two runs for the host club, while Elisha Brett and Louise Kirby picked up one wicket each. Rhiannan Jefferies finished as she began the tournament, by dismissing Louise Kirby as opening bowler and conceding just five runs in the process. Rayleigh lost one further wicket, that of opener Lorraine Frost, who was run out by good work in the field by Libby Cansdale and bowler Lennox.

The Belhus team: Lynne Bonner (captain), Libby Cansdale, Crystal Gansbuhler, Louise Harmsworth, Janet Jefferies, Rhiannan Jefferies, Sophie Lennox and Jackie Norris.
