Polly challenges Jackie over energy bills

PROSPECTIVE parliamentary candidate for Thurrock, Polly Billington (Lab) has thrown down the gauntlet to Thurrock MP over energy bills.

Ms Billington said: “Ed Miliband has said he will freeze energy bills until 2017 if labour wins the next election. This will make a real difference for people in Thurrock who are struggling with the cost of living.

The question now is: will David Cameron do now what Ed will do? And will Jackie Doyle Price support a freeze to energy bills?

The energy companies started by scaremongering and now are offering a freeze – but only for the few not the many, as this will save families in average £120 and £1800 for businesses.

I want a better energy market that works for working people. That’s why it needs to be reset and customers given a break from spiralling bills.

If David Cameron doesn’t act it will show he’s on the side of the energy companies and not ordinary people.

Britain can be better than this. Let’s start making a difference now.”

  1. Who do we believe more Mr Milliband will deliver an energy price freeze, IF HE COMES TO POWER?
or Mr Cameron will deliver an in-out referendum on Europe IF HE COME TO POWER?

  2. Exactly. Polly’s gimmick politics is a joke. Red Ed just wants to control the markets because he’s marxist like his dad. He believes state control of everything is the only way forward.

Cameron had his chance to prove he was serious about a referendum. He should have announced it and let the Lib Dems and Labour deny the people the chance to have their say. If we end up with another coalition or Labour government, the people of this country will never get their say on Europe.

Polly and Red Ed will say anything to try to get elected. They will then deny everything, as Polly does now. They will continue with their policy of mass immigration and the passing of sovereignty of this country to Europe. Only when we’ve lost all national identity and all power to govern ourselves will the Labour party see their job as done. Maybe then Ed will get his wish of revolution.

  3. Let’s just pretend, for a second, that this isn’t a crackpot scheme dreamed up by a halfwit. Lets look at the benefits. Families will save an average of £120? But that’s over a twenty month period and note that sneaky little word ‘average’? Most households (I hate the’Hardworking families’ slogan) will save a lot less that that, maybe as little as £80 over twenty months. So, even at £120 it’s a whopping £6 a month. More likely the average household will save £4. Not exactly a lot to get excited about is it?

Back in the real world, we surely understand that, even if Miliband can achieve this policy, the energy companies will hike the price in advance and again when the freeze is over so what we gain on the swings we lose on the roundabouts? If I was JDP, I wouldn’t even bother getting into the argument.

  4. Under Labour, gas bills doubled and electricity bills were up more than 50%. When Milliband became Energy Secretary, the companies were making a £25 loss per bill; when he left government, they were making £55 profit per bill.

Oh how Polly soon forgets the past………….again
