INTU LAKESIDE has gone to the courts to get gypsy travellers evicted from their land.

Over fifty travellers are in the old car park area opposite Sainsbury’s in Chafford Hundred.

Kate Miller, General Manager (Operations) at intu Lakeside: “We have been working with both Thurrock Council and local police to address the illegal occupation of the coach park which began in late June. Together, we are following the appropriate legal channels to ensure this issue is resolved as quickly as possible.”

A spokesperson for Thurrock Council echoed the action, Lakeside have taken but also made it clear whose responsibility it was to clear up the area.

A spokesperson said: “The land is owned by Lakeside and therefore it is their responsibility to clear it up. They have been to court and, I believe, they have secured an eviction order.

  1. Soft touch council can’t deal with their own patch. Who cares about the taxpayer. They’re just their to keep the council’s pockets full.

  3. This area hasnt been used for ages so my stance on this is USE IT OR OTHERS WILL ABUSE IT !
I think its a waste of such a expanse of concreted area surley another restruant or hotel will be usefull ?

  4. Or how about regrassing the area and returning it to a field which is what it was before it became a car park.
