FIRE CREWS tackled a fire in the roof of a semi-detached bungalow in Highfield Gardens, Grays. Crews reported 50 percent of the roof was alight and the property was 100 percent smoke logged.
Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire.
Update 00:08hrs: Firefighters are stripping back the roof tiles to reach the fire in the roof space.
The adjoining bungalow is smoke logged.
Update:01:00hrs: A couple in their seventies and a 15 year old boy have been made homeless following the fire. The Red Cross Emergency Support vehicle has been requested to the incident to assist the residents.
Firefighters are continuing to strip the roof tiles back to reach the seat of the fire. Crews are using three hose reels and one main jet to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, ECFRS and the police will carry out an investigation.
