WOODSIDE Academy were in celebratory mood after coming top of the Thurrock SATS tables.

The school scored a remarkable 91%. An 11% improvement on the score from last year and a full 12% above the national average.

Principal of Woodside Academy, Edward Caines said: “It was good to see Woodside heading the table, not only as the school with the highest results but in all the other measures; including closing the gap, progress and the average over three years.

"This is a reflection of hard work by staff and our rigorous system of monitoring and interventions. Had these results been published in September they might just have persuaded our inspection team to move our grade to outstanding.”

"Although obviously we showed Ofsted our own result but they didn’t have the comparative information then and I imagine they have to take more notice of actual verified tables. They said we were very close to outstanding and this might just have pushed it over, who knows. A nice Christmas present, nonetheless.
