A MAN was restrained by senior police officers as he attempted to confront the chief constable of Essex Police over claims that an investigation into an assault on his son was mis-handled.
The incident happened at a Meet the Police event in Grays Community Hall, Maidstone Road, hosted by the Police Crime Commissioner, Nick Alston and Chief Constable, Steven Kavanagh.
After an hour or so, where the chief detailed the challenges for Essex Police, questions were thrown out to the floor.
After a few local issues were addressed, a male at the back asked to speak. In moderate tones, he complained that he believed that an investigation into an assault
"On my son in Honywood School in Coggeshall was not handled properly."
As the male started to name police officers, Mr Alston interjected and counselled the male that he was veering into the world of "libel" and the matter may be better dealt with in another form.
The male became visibly distressed and began to shout: "When will there be justice for my son?"
To the consternation of the audience, he then stood up and marched towards the chief. He was restrained by Thurrock’s chief inspector Leigh Norris and the assistant chief constable, Julia Wortley. They diplomatically ushered him out of the hall.
The man’s cries could still be heard as senior police officers spoke to him.
The meeting continued.
YT understands that this matter was the subject of an Independent Police Complaints Commission inquiry.
