A letter from prospective parliamentary candidate for Labour in South Basildon and East Thurrock, Mike Le Surf.

    Sir,

Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and our NHS are very dear to the hearts of residents across south Essex. I was therefore delighted that Basildon Health Week organised by the local Labour party was such a success last week. The street stalls, mental health summit with Kevan Jones MP and an evening with Lord Robert Winston at the Towngate were all part of the week highlighting the issues within our NHS and offering a way forward under a Labour government from May 2015. I have to commend South Basildon councillors Gavin Callaghan and Andrew Gordon for facilitating the main events of the week and shining a light on these serious issues.

Our NHS is in a critical condition and is currently moving towards the increased privatisation of services and hospitals across the UK. Waiting times to see your GP, ambulance response times and waits for cancer treatment are all increasing as the NHS buckles under the strain put on it by the failed ideology of the Tory/Lib Dem government.

We currently have a regional health service run by Clinical Commissioning Groups which offer a fragmented picture of healthcare across Britain

If we want to keep our NHS in public hands we need a Labour government next May who will repeal the Health and Social Care Act brought in by the coalition in 2012. The fight is on to save OUR NHS.
