LEADING politicians from across the borough have come forward to pay their respects to late UKIP councillor, Maggie Ray, who died on Wednesday night.

The leader of Thurrock Council, cllr John Kent said: "At this sad time all of our thoughts and prayers are with Robert and his family.

"Although only elected in May, Maggie was always at Robert’s side, so we had come to know her well over the last couple of years and her passing touches us all.

"In that time I came to know Maggie as a gentle and caring soul.

    "She will be missed".

The leader of the Conservative group in Thurrock, cllr Rob Gledhill said: "I would like to express both my personal condolences and those of the Conservative Group to Robert Ray and Thurrock Council’s UKIP group on the sad passing of Maggie.

"Although Maggie was a new Councillor she was regularly with Robert, at the Council Offices, before she was elected, so was quite well known to staff and elected members alike.

"She was a friendly person and always had a smile on her face so will be sorely missed by all".
