THE SHADOW leader of the Thurrock Conservatives, cll Rob Gledhill has spoken out against the cuts to the police force.

Whilst his MP, Jackie Doyle-Price, appears to have fully endorsed the cuts, the Little Thurrock councillor, who in his time has served as a special constable, is critical of yesterday’s announcement.

Cllr Rob Gledhill said: "I have grave concerns over the reduction in the number of officers and the number of stations in Thurrock.

"It is now at a critical mass situation where the hard working officers on the beat will be stretched to breaking point. With fewer officers, the perception of crime increases. Equally with the fear of getting caught reduced, we may see an increase in actual crime.

"It is right that the Police, like every other public service, has to make best use of the taxpayers money it receives each year. But it appears that they have just looked at the quickest options to make ends meet, not the most creative, at the expense of Thurrock residents."
