    Hendon 1 v 1 East Thurrock United

EAST Thurrock United moved into a play off place after a hard fought 1-1 draw with fellow promotion hopefuls, Hendon.

It cannot have been easy for John Coventry’s boys to keep their run going. They had a hard three points on Saturday and were out again just 48 hours later against much fancied Hendon.

Coventry’s Rocks took the lead in the 12th minute when Hendon keeper Ben McNamara could only parry a Sam Higgins header and Kye Ruel snapped up the rebound.

Hendon got back on terms 15 minutes later when Rocks failed to deal with a corner and Charlie Goode found the ball at his feet and he swept it into the net – though Rocks felt aggrieved that referee Jonathan Creswick had pulled centre-back Simon Peddie out of the box to lecture him, then blew the whistle for the restart without letting the defender get back in place and it was that gap that Hendon exploited.

Rocks had much more possession than their hosts in the second half, without ever really threatening McNamara, while Hendon always looked like a side with potential to catch their visitors on the break and, from one attack, Rocks were grateful to David Hughes for the save of the night, tipping a fierce drive over the bar.
