MERCEDES-Benz of Lakeside literally worked through the night to make their customers some of the very first drivers to be on the road in a 15-plate car.

The Heron Way Retailer pulled out all the stops to ensure that customers who ordered a new 15-plate Mercedes-Benz could drive it off the forecourt on the stroke of midnight on 1st March – the date that the registration was first available.

Over 45 customers took part in Mercedes-Benz of Lakeside’s Grand Midnight Handover experience. With the retailer having made all the necessary arrangements and sorted all the paperwork in advance of the handover, all customers had to do was arrive at Mercedes-Benz of Lakeside at 11pm on February 28th. They were then able to enjoy refreshments and run through any queries on their exciting new Mercedes-Benz or smart with the retailer’s sales and after sales teams.

As the clock ticked down to midnight, customers were invited to come outside where their new cars – which spanned from the just launched new smart fortwo to the formidable ML-Class SUV – were all lined up and ready to go. At 11.55pm customers started their engines and were waved away in convoy as the clock struck 12.

Customer feedback to the meticulously-planned event was excellent:

Mr Mohammed Karim, who collected his C-Class Saloon said: “I’m really excited about getting my car tonight; it’s going to be a lovely surprise for the rest of my family. Parv has been great and really looked after me.”

New smart fortwo owner Miss Aimee Kingsbury said: "Lovely evening, everything has been superb, and the service has been spectacular."

Mr Mark Daines, who picked up a new C-Class Coupé said: "The service at Lakeside is superb. I’ve been looked after right from the start and again tonight. I’ve been given a warm welcome and a lovely cup of coffee. Thank you."

Ify Madueke, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Lakeside, was delighted with the night.

“This is the third time we’ve staged our Grand Midnight Handover and it was even more popular this year, our customers really enjoying the opportunity to make taking delivery of their new Mercedes-Benz or smart even more special,” said Ify.

“Buying a new car is one of the biggest purchases that anyone will make so we wanted to make the experience as memorable and exciting as possible for our customers, as well as ensuring that they were amongst the very first people in the country to proudly drive their 15-registration cars on the road.”

Ify continued: “Those that took part not only got to experience their new car on a wonderful drive home on clear open roads, but they also got to enjoy a full day with their car away from the normal hustle and bustle of our showroom on what is usually the most busy day of the year and as much time with our team as they wanted.”
