NO, it may be April 1st but this is not an April Fool.
Thousands of Thurrock homes received a leaflet from the Conservative candidate for Thurrock, Jackie Doyle Price asking for their vote on May 7th.
It had an endorsement from the Principle (sic) of the Gateway Academy in Tilbury, Kevin Sadler which stated: "Jackie has always supported the Gateway Academy and the Gateway Learning Community."
We think they meant Principal.
Privately, some Labour councillors (especially the Tilbury ones) were fuming that the council had just released funding for the free school project.
Council leader, John Kent was more measured. He said:"The leaflet is simply stating a fact that Jackie Doyle Price has always supported the Free School."
YT contacted "local man" Kevin Sadler at his Chelmsford base, to see if he would be voting Conservative but we had not received a reply at the time of publication.
Perhaps, his religious studies department would point us to John Chapter 8, Verse 7.
