THE South Basildon and East Thurrock Labour Party had a double launch of their General Election campaign over the Easter weekend.

Parliamentary candidate Mike Le-Surf hosted the two events, one in Basildon town centre on Easter Saturday and the second at East Thurrock United Football Club in Corringham on Easter Monday.

South Basildon is a large constituency with 11 wards spanning the two local authorities of Thurrock and Basildon. On Saturday there was an all-day street stall in the town centre and on Monday a meeting in the lounge bar at East Thurrock United Football Club before the local derby match against Grays Athletic.

Mike Le-Surf said: "It was great to host a double launch this bank holiday weekend and kick off the campaign in style at two different venues. We had a great response from the public at the stall in Basildon and I was delighted that we could host the East Thurrock launch at a brilliant football club in the heart of the community. With one month to go we are now in the final stages of the campaign and very much looking forward to the next four weeks."

Former Labour MP, Baroness Smith of Basildon, attended both events and said: "Mike will be a great member of parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock. He has cares very much about local people’s issues and will also live in the constituency."
