Overnight battle but fire crews put out fire in large garage

    FIRE CREWS tackled a fire in a large garage used as a workshop in Lampits Hill, Corringham.

    Initially two appliances were sent to the scene. Crews arriving at the incident report that the garage is 100 per cent well alight and at 20:46 hrs, the incident commander requested the attendance of an additional appliance. The Electricity Board has been called to isolate power to the garage, measuring 15m x 10m.

    At 20:50 hrs, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels, one main het and a ground monitor in firefighting operations.

    Update 05:57 hrs:Crews have worked through the night to extinguish the blaze. The remaining fire in the roof void is now out and crews are turning over and damping down. Acetylene cylinders involved in the blaze are still leaking and are being cooled with a covering jets.

    We have no information relating to the cause at this stage.
